Spending our time with Honey....

Honey has endured a very rough past two days. We spent some time at the Emergency Vet last night, and will see her new regular vet this morning.

We can hear her pain, her panting....she knows her little heart and lungs have been invaded by forms we would never wish on any living being.

The medications we had hoped would calm her and give her some peace to hold on a little longer do not seem to be working.

We are shattered, heart-broken, and though we know it is time...it is so unbearable to let her go.

Last night we made a little area for her by the window...and this morning we made the paw print...

We slept near her, hugged her and can't stop our tears.

  1. This has been a rough morning...

Reading this just after Destiny's Mom's post...
After Charlie The Sheltie's Mum's post...

Mom will keep a certain Warren Zevon song in her head now "Keep Me In Your Heart For A While" and in our khase, a while is a long long time...

  5. So so very sorry. We are crying in Boston with you. We wish we had a magic potion to make everything better but realize there is nothing one can say or do to take the pain away. Embrace it, feel it and continue to use all of your energy and power to love Honey the beautiful.

    With tenderness and love,

  6. We are so sad for you - before Checkers came along we had a springer spaniel, Keats, for 14 years we went through a very difficult last few months just as you are. In the end our vet came to the house and we said our final good byes in his favorite spot in the backyard. I hope that when the time comes you will have a peaceful farewell with Honey as well. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

  20. If it her time and she has told you so, you must let her go. - TBH

    The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this – the last battle – can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don’t let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me ‘til the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its’ last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you
    Who has to decide this thing to do;
We’ve been so close – we two – these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

  24. Run free sweet Honey - you have earned your angel wings sweetheart.

Our hearts are breaking for you all - we send you lots of love and hugs.

A very good friend of mine said something recently which has stuck in my mind -

Grief is the price we pay for love.

    Ain't that the truth :(

  26. THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
There is a Bridge connecting Heaven & Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of it's many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.
There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly looks up! The nose twitches. The ears are up. The eyes are staring. And this one suddenly runs from their group.
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.
